European ESG Reporting Rules Too Rushed, Accountant Group Says

A leading global accounting group has called on the European Union to simplify proposed sustainability reporting requirements for non-EU companies, and suggested that the standards are being rushed through too quickly.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants is worried about the amount of work the new reporting standards, from the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group, would place on companies and the failure to align European standards with global sustainability reporting rules, the organization said by email Wednesday. It called for non-EU companies active in Europe to be allowed to use different global reporting standards.
